If you are new here, this page is for you.

People arrive at this table from all directions. Some of you have been reading about herbs for years. Some of you were handed a bottle by a cousin last week and have no idea what is in it. Both are fine. But you should not start in the same place, so let me tell you how I would choose.

Start with what is actually bothering you

Not with the longest guide, and not with the cheapest one. Pick the one that names the thing you have been putting up with. If you have been quietly uncomfortable after meals for two years, start there. If it is your evenings that have gone wrong, start there instead. The others will still be here.

Read it once, then change one thing

Not four things. One.

Every guide I write starts with a single practice that takes a few minutes, and there is a reason for that. The women who taught me did not overhaul their lives on a Tuesday. They kept one small habit until it stopped being a decision, and then they added another. That is slower than you want it to be. It is also the only version that lasts.

What these are, and what they are not

They are written records of traditional practice — what a plant was used for, how it was prepared, and what my elders said about who should leave it alone.

They are not medical advice, they do not replace your doctor, and I will not tell you a plant cures anything. If you take prescribed medicine, talk to the person who prescribed it before you change your routine. I would rather lose the sale than have you come to harm being agreeable.

More on all of that on the questions page.
